Finally VOD Apologizes to Government and Hun Manet

Phnom Penh: Finally, the online news VOD has issued an official apology letter, after being warned by the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen to revoke the license after this newspaper published false information affecting the government's image.

In the second letter to the Prime Minister of Cambodia dated 12 February 2023, the Acting President of the Cambodian Center for Independent Media, the VOD online news organization, Ms. Chhorn Sokunthy stated that VOD regrets the broadcast Information that tarnished the reputation of Dr. Hun Manet and the Royal Government.

She continued: "VOD apologizes to Samdech himself as well as HE Dr. Hun Manet for publishing that news article. Please, Samdech Prime Minister, receive the highest respect from us".

It should also be noted that on February 9, VOD Khmer News reported that Mr. Hun Manet had signed on behalf of Prime Minister Hun Sen to provide assistance to Turkey.

This led to the rejection of Mr. Hun Manet himself, and after the Prime Minister arrived in Cambodia, he also announced a 72-hour time for the newspaper to apologize to the Royal Government and Mr. Hun Manet.

In addition, he wrote on his Facebook page on February 12, reducing the time to 24 hours.

After receiving the warning, VOD sent a letter to PM on the afternoon of February 12, however, in that letter used words of regret instead of apology.

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, said that he could not accept the expression of regret from VOD radio instead of "sorry" and he decided to order the Ministry of Information to cancel the VOD radio license to end broadcasting from 10 am on February 13, 2023 onwards.

However, there is no new decision from PM Hun Sen on the fate of this online newspaper yet.
